At Howard Park Tennis Club, we use "progressive tennis" methods for the junior programs. Our certified coaches have been trained to implement the latest training techniques from Tennis Canada and the International Tennis Federation, and to use the best equipment to teach the children. Tiny Tots:
A fun-filled class to introduce racquet skills and coordination to children 4 to 5 years of age. 19" to 21" racquets, foam balls and a mini net will be used for this class. Parents are encouraged
to join in and help!
Days: Mondays and/or Wednesdays Time: 4 to 4:55 p.m.
First Serve:
A fun introduction to or continuation of fundamental skills for children
aged 6 to 7 years. 21" to 23" racquets, foam and/or "red" balls and mini net will be used in this class.
Days: Mondays and/or Wednesdays Time: 4 to 4:55 p.m.
Lobbers:
Fun-filled games and training the fundamentals for children aged 8 to 10 years. 23" to 25" racquets, stage 2 balls (low compression) and an 18m court will be used in this class.
Days: Mondays and/or Wednesdays Time: 4 to 4:55 p.m. or 5 to 5:55 p.m.
Smashers:
Fun, exercise and training the basic skills of tennis for kids from 10 to 12 years of age. 23" to 25" racquets, stage 3 balls (low compression) and a full-sized court will be used in this class.
Days: Mondays and/or Wednesdays Time: 5 to 5:55 p.m.
Teen Tennis:
Fun, exercise and training the basic skills of tennis for teens from 13 to 18 years of age.
Days: Mondays and/or Wednesdays Time: 5 to 5:55 p.m.
In the Event of Rain
Classes run rain or shine. In the event of rain, classes will be held in the clubhouse. Coaches will keep the kids busy with activities such as games, exercises, learning about rules and etiquette, etc. To enhance on-court lessons, coaches may also play videos for the kids.
